We
know from experience that car rental can, not only be a lengthy
process, but can also cost you more if you leave it till you
arrive at the airport.
There are many different car rental companies to choose from at
both Orlando International Airport (long haul) and Orlando
Municipal Airport (short haul) and normally there are plenty of
cars available - however, that is not to say that the size of car
you require is available and you may have to take something that
is larger than your requirements (with possible additional cost
involved and lower MPG ratios.
It is fair to say that high season periods are usually more
difficult to secure the rental car of your choice than low season
- but once again, from experience, we know that is not always
so.
Remember that once you arrive at the rental desks the respective
companies KNOW that you NEED to rent a car in order to exit the
airport and continue your journey to your holiday accommodation.
Picture the scenario, your plane has landed, you've waited for it
to taxi to the unloading point, you've waited and been jostled in
the queue to alight, you've waited to clear customs, you've made
you way to the baggage claim carousel and waited for your bags to
come round the seemingly endless conveyer belt and are now on your
way to pick up your rental car.
You now have to decide which car rental company to approach.
You can either use the phones and ring round the various companies
or approach the individual companies desks to find out what they
have available and their costs. If you've arrived on a
scheduled flight there are may people in the same position as you
and the queues are invariably long.
Result?
You have to spend time making a choice of rental company and car
type - and make a comparison of pricing - all under pressure - and
don't expect to get a "Special Deal" - their cars will
be hired out no matter what - often out of sheer desperation and
frustration by the customer - and remember there are more flights
with more people wanting their cars than the one you've been on!
If you take our advice
and do as we do - the most sensible approach to car rental is book before
you go - so far we have always come up with the cheapest deals
